You call that a ute? Meet the supercharged Chevrolet Goliath 6×6

Just when you thought the Chevrolet Silverado Goliath 6x6 couldn’t get any crazier, US tuning firm Hennessey has fitted a supercharger to boost the V8 to a mind-boggling 800 horsepower.

The custom-built, road-legal six-wheel-drive monster truck costs in excess of $USD400,000 in North America, equivalent to about $AUD600,000 based on today’s exchange rates.

Customers start with the ‘regular’ $USD375,000 version and then add a $USD30,000 supercharger kit and some other toys.

The Hennessey tuning firm introduced the Chevrolet Silverado Goliath 6x6 about this time last year, but the original model wasn’t supercharged.

Some buyers wanted even more power and so a supercharger kit was added to the 6.2-litre V8.

The result is a claimed output of 600kW and 914Nm, thanks to the 2.9-litre supercharger.

The company claims the first example of a Goliath 6x6 was sold to a potato farmer, which if nothing else proves that it pays to eat your veggies.

Hennessey says it only plans to custom build a maximum of 25 examples of the Goliath 6x6 in total, if demand stretches that far.

The first one took 10 months to develop from scratch. The tuning specialist has also done a 6x6 version of the Ford F-150 'Velociraptor' as well as working its magic on other performance cars from General Motors and Ford.

While Hennessey says it has sold Goliath pick-ups to customers outside the US (including Germany) Drive has been told there are no plans to offer them in Australia via Holden Special Vehicles (soon to possibly be called General Motors Specialty Vehicles), which currently remanufactures the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pick-ups to right-hand-drive locally.

According to Hennessey, the Goliath starts life as a Chevrolet Silverado Z71 Trail Boss (GM-speak for a blacked-out off-road pack), before a third axle, a stretched chassis, revised suspension, and extended bodywork are added.

Drive

The original rear differential is moved to the back axle and another specially built differential is fitted to the first of the two rear axles.

The brakes have been upgraded (with Brembos up front) to help pull up this beast, estimated to weigh in excess of three tonnes.

The company claims it can do the 0 to 100kmh dash in less than five seconds, but so far no-one outside the firm has put a stopwatch on it.
