Video: Ferrari releases ‘Le Grande Rendez-Vous’ with F1 driver Charles Leclerc

Iconic Rendezvous short-film reimagined in Monaco, featuring a Ferrari SF90, an F1 driver, and His Majesty Prince Albert II.

A new short-film by Oscar-winning director Claude Lelouch pays homage to his famous 1976 short-film Rendezvous (originally titled C'était un rendez-vous).

The new film premiered in France on Saturday night and shows Ferrari Formula One driver Charles Leclerc driving a Ferrari SF90 around the streets of Monaco.

Unlike the original Rendezvous, the new film was shot on a completely closed road circuit, with production having occurred on the morning of May 24 2020 – the Sunday of the cancelled Monaco Grand Prix.

In the film, Leclerc is seen driving HSH Prince Albert II through Monaco at speed, before meeting a local florist.

As reported by CarAdvice earlier, for the original 1976 film, Lelouch strapped a 35mm camera to the front his personal Mercedes-Benz 450 SEL 6.9, and mounted it low to create the perception it was on the front of a sports-car. The sound of a sports-car was also dubbed over the vision.

Lelouch took to the streets at 5:30am, and for the next 8 minutes 27 seconds blasted through the city of Paris at breakneck speeds, estimated at one point to nudge 200km/h.

Running red lights – and even mounting the kerb at one point – Lelouch’s epic blast through the city ended with an early morning rendezvous with his girlfriend, giving the short film its title C'etait un Rendezvous.
