2021 Fiat 500 all-electric hatch revealed

The Elettrica Cinquecento hardtop joins the cabrio, as details of the iconic Italian city car take shape.

The first images of the new hardtop 2021 Fiat 500 hardtop have been revealed by the Italian car company, joining the previously unveiled cabrio in the model line-up.

Despite looking strikingly similar to the current 500, the new Cinquecento is all-new, and will exclusively use an electric powertrain.

As reported by CarAdvice in March, only 500 of the fully-electric 2021 Fiat 500 models will be initially offered in a 'La Prima' launch edition in each market.

It's understood a right-hand-drive variant is being produced for the UK, but at this stage it remains unclear if the city car will be offered in Australia.

The Elettrica Cinquecento will come with a 42kWh battery producing 87kW and reaching 100km/h in nine seconds. Range is 320km (WLTP cycle).

Being designed for the city, the little Fiat 500 will hit 50km/h in just 3.1 seconds from stand-still.

With an 85kW fast-charging capability and 'Combo 2' socket, the 500 can accept both AC and DC charging. Just five minutes on a fast charger will provide 48km of range.

The 'La Prima' launch edition will come with a 3kW 'Easy Wallbox' charging system, allowing owners to charge their Fiat 500 at home from a standard wall socket. The car can be fully charged at home in six hours with the optional 7.4kW Easy Wallbox.

Many of the car's features can be monitored and controlled via a smartphone app.

A 'Level 2' semi-autonomous driving system allows the Fiat 500 to accelerate and brake to keep a predetermined speed, as well as maintaining its position in a lane – all without driver input.

The Fiat 500 will come with a 10.25-inch touchscreen in 16:9 ratio, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Will the 2021 Fiat 500 come to Australia?

Fiat Chrysler Australia opted to offer only a 'no comment on future products' response when asked about the new 500's potential for Australia.
