World’s fastest car: Bugatti Veyron for sale $2.2 million

The former title holder to the world’s fastest car is for sale in the UK for £1.2 million, or $AUD 2.2 million.

An immaculate low-kilometre example of the Bugatti Veyron – once the world’s fastest car – is for sale in the UK for £1.2 million, or $AUD 2.2 million, which is not far off what it cost new, despite being 13 years old.

The 2007 model is one of just 450 examples built from 2005 to 2015, and has just 828 miles (or 1332km) on the odometer.

It is powered by a mammoth quad turbo 8.0-litre W16 engine (two V8s mounted back to back) with an output of 1001 horsepower (746kW) and 1250Nm of torque.

The claimed 0 to 100kmh time is just 2.5 seconds. This original version had a top speed of 408.47kmh – a record set in 2005 – however subsequent special edition models exceeded this, eventually topping out at 431.072 km/h in 2010.

It is being offered for sale by Romans International in the UK, which specialises in exotic and collectible sports cars.

The Veyron's successor, the Bugatti Chiron, has a claimed 0 to 100kmh time of 2.4 seconds but is limited to a top speed of 420kmh because at the time the vehicle was launched there wasn’t a tyre that could safely exceed that threshold.

However, since then, the company claims its latest special edition, the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ is capable of reaching 483kmh.

Meanwhile, the identity of the seller of this immaculate low-kilometre example of a 2007 Bugatti Veyron is yet to be identified.

The name is likely to be kept secret. Despite the attention exotic hypercars attract, most owners prefer to remain anonymous.

The Bugatti Veyron was never officially sold in Australia because it was made in left-hand-drive only and not approved for our roads.

However, a number of unknown Australians have owned a Bugatti Veyron and kept them overseas – or imported them here, but only driven them on motor racing circuits or private test tracks.
