2021 BMW M4 spied without camouflage – UPDATE
The new M4 has been spied bare, and one part of its design may disappoint some BMW fans.
The 2021 BMW M4, the performance flagship of the 4 Series line, has been photographed without camouflage just days after the new 4er was revealed.
The fresh image, which surfaced on Reddit, further confirms the 2021 M4 will wear a similar oversized kidney grille design to that worn by regular 4 Series variants – a styling cue that has divided BMW fans.
However, different to the silver trimming on the grille surround and mesh of the regular 4er, the M4’s is coated in black with a louvered design. (Or, at this size, plantation shutters... - Ed).
A blacked-out grille will also be offered as an option for standard 4 Series models, but with the standard diamond mesh design.
UPDATE, August 17: We've added a video to this story, showing the new M4 – albeit still camouflaged – lapping the Nurburgring. The video offers a god impression of the new M4's aural sensations.
An image was also posted yesterday on the Bimmerpost forum showing the new M4's bumper during the production process, showing the grille from another angle.
Further to the grille, the M4 wears a much more aggressive front bumper than the regular 4 Series, with larger intakes and smoother curves to channel air into the rumoured 375kW/600Nm 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine.
The M4’s bonnet also has additional aerodynamic styling not seen in previous spy shots.
While BMW has made no official timing announcement, the 2021 M4’s unveiling is expected in late 2020.
