2020 Audi RS3 price and specs

The hot hatch and sedan rejoin Audi's line-up after an 18-month absence – but an all-new RS3 has been spied testing.

Audi Australia has announced the return of its RS3 hot hatch and sedan to local showrooms, following delays that pushed back a slated late 2019 debut.

The RS3 left Audi’s local line-up in late 2018, due to the brand needing to certify the model under the newer, harsher worldwide harmonised light vehicle test (WLTP) emissions testing standard.

As before, the 2020 Audi RS3 range is made up of Sportback hatch (pictured) and sedan body types, with a Carbon Edition package available on both variants.

The Audi RS3 Sportback opens the range at $83,800 plus on-road costs, with the sedan asking $2700 more at $86,500 plus on-road costs.

A Carbon Edition option adds $3400 to each model, taking their prices to $87,200 plus on-road costs for the Sportback and $89,900 plus on-roads for the sedan. More info on what the pack includes listed below.

For context, when the RS3 hatch and sedan models left the line-up in late 2018, they were priced from $80,240 and $84,240 before on-road costs. This marks a price hike of $3560 and $2260 with their reintroduced 2020 pricing.

Audi Australia has told CarAdvice the price premium is aligned with additional equipment offered on the A3 during the RS3's absence from the market, and also the addition of electro-magnetic suspension, metallic paint, a Bang and Olufsen sound system and wireless charging as standard.

Audi’s 2020 RS3 range is powered by the familiar 2.5-litre turbocharged five-cylinder engine which outputs 294kW and 480Nm through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and quattro all-wheel drive system.

Audi claims the setup will accelerate both body types from 0 to 100km/h in just 4.1 seconds.

The 2020 Audi RS3 gets electro-magnetic sports suspension with varying drive modes, eight-piston brake calipers with 370mm brake discs up front and 310mm in the rear tucked behind 19-inch alloy wheels.

The RS3 comes with aggressive styling to differentiate it from the (outgoing) A3 it is based on. These include a revised front grille, larger air intakes on the front bumper and daytime running lights in the LED headlights.

The Carbon edition pack finishes select exterior trims, alloy wheels and badges in gloss black, and adds carbon-fibre side mirror housings, cabin inlays, privacy glass and a panoramic glass sunroof.

Inside, the RS3 gets RS sports seats finished in Nappa leather, a 12.3-inch digital display with RS-specific functions, and wireless device charging.

Audi’s MMI infotainment system features on a 7.0-inch touchscreen with digital radio connectivity. Sound is produced by a 14-speaker Bang and Olufsen sound system and an additional subwoofer.

The 2020 Audi RS3 also gets adaptive cruise control that can bring the car to – and accelerate from – a complete stop, side assist, active lane assist, and rear cross-traffic assist.

Both RS3 variants are offered with three- and five-year servicing plans for $2320 and $3420 respectively and the model can be purchased using Audi’s new online sales system.

What about the new new RS3?

For those who can wait, the new-generation A3 Sportback and sedan were revealed earlier this year, and the new RS3 has been spied testing. We would expect to see it here sometime next year.
