2008 Ford Ka spy photos

Update: Ford Australia says no plans for new Ka.

The Ford Ka has been going strong in Europe for more than a decade, but relatively speaking, it hasn't changed much. The Ka landed in Australia in late 1999, enjoyed a brief life down under and was pulled from sale in 2002. But now there is a new one.

Our European photographers were lucky enough to capture the new Ka undergoing road tests close to the Nürburgring. The bulging front and rear lights are hard to overcome, but we believe they are exaggerated to fool our photographers.

This new Ford Ka is a little different, you see Ford and Fiat decided it was best to join forces and build the Fiat 500 and the new Ford Ka together. Sergio Marchionne, boss of Fiat (the guy who recently crashed his Ferrari 599), and Lewis Booth, chief of Ford Europe, realised that it made sense for both companies to help each other.

Having met at the 2005 Frankfurt Motor Show, both manufacturers signed a co-operation contract and two years later, the first of the twins was born: the Fiat 500. So now its the Ka's turn.

Expected in 2008, the new Ford Ka will share pretty much everything with its Fiat brother and both cars will be built in Fiat’s Tychy plant in Poland.

The question for us of course is whether or not the new Ka will make it to Australia, Ford Australia public affairs manager Sinead McAlary told CarAdvice:

I can confirm that we currently have no plans to bring the Ka back to Australia. Fiesta is our B-Car entrant and we're happy with the inroads we're making in this segment of the market.

Europeans get three engine choices: a 51kW 1.2-litre, 55kW 1.3-litre Multijet with DPF or a 74kW 1.4-litre. All engines are identical in specification to those powering the Fiat 500.
