2020 Alfa Romeo Giulietta price and specs

Alfa Romeo’s entry point now comes in a streamlined range with a small price rise before the model reaches the end of the road.

Though it barely troubles the scorer on Australian sales charts, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta hatch has had a final range adjustment to see it through before production comes to an end later in 2020.

The Giulietta range has now been trimmed to just two variants, comprising the entry-level Giulietta Super powered by a 1.4-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing 125kW and 250Nm, or the range-topping Veloce with a 1.7-litre turbo (referencing Alfa’s 1750 GTV of the 1960s and '70s) with 177kW and 340Nm.

Both variants feed power to their front wheels via a six-speed dual-clutch automatic, (dubbed TCT for twin-clutch transmission). The previously available Super six-speed manual and limited-release Veloce S variants have been culled from the range.

Pricing for the Giulietta Super now starts from $35,950 before on-road costs, up by $1050 for an equivalent auto (previous manual pricing kicked off from $29,900) while the Veloce asks for $42,950 before on-roads, also a $1050 price bump.

Equipment highlights for the Giulietta Super include cloth seat trim, Alpine 7.0-inch infotainment with AM/FM/DAB+ radio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, cruise control, front and rear park sensors, rear-view camera, 17-inch alloy wheels, halogen headlights with auto-on, rain sensing wipers, dual zone climate control and leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear selector.

The Giulietta Veloce adds leather and Alcantara seat trim, red steering wheel stitching, 18-inch alloy wheels, lowered sport suspension, dual tailpipes, bi-xenon headlights with carbon-look internals, a black-finished exterior brightwork package and carbon-look interior trim pieces.

Safety covers the basics with six airbags, ABS brakes, traction and stability control, hill hold, tyre pressure monitoring and ISOFIX child seat mounts. Advanced driver assist systems like adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, driver fatigue monitoring or autonomous emergency braking are not available.

Options include a dual-pane panoramic sunroof for $1900, metallic paint for $500, and a Sportiva package for the Super which adds leather trim in black, red or brown, front seat heating and electric adjustment, gearshift paddles, 18-inch alloy wheels, “oversized” brakes and a slew of Veloce styling elements inside and out for $5250.

The Veloce can be optioned with an alternate 18-inch wheel design for $500 or a leather seat package for $2900 which adds leather trim (of course) in black or red plus seat heating and electric adjustment for the front seats.

Giulietta saes for 2020 sit at just 43 units to the end of May, compared to 79 sales year to date in 2019, officially making the Giulietta the slowest-selling small car starting under $40,000 in Australia.

While an official production version is yet to emerge, the 2019 Alfa Romeo Tonale compact SUV concept looks to set to pick up where the Giulietta leaves off. Leaked images from late 2019 give a solid indicator of what to expect from the new model.
