2017-2019 Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line recalled, bodywork may detach

The roof spoiler could fall off affected cars, according to a warning in the recall notice.

Volkswagen Australia has issued a recall of 2627 examples of its 2017-2019 Tiguan R-Line SUV due to a roof spoiler that may detach from the car.

The recall notice, lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), says the roof spoiler may partially or completely detach due to inconsistencies in the bonding process.

Volkswagen Australia says if the roof spoiler detaches while the vehicle is being driven, it may increase risk of an accident and injury to vehicle occupants and other road users.

Volkswagen has told CarAdvice there are no known instances of failure on Australian-delivered cars.

Volkswagen is contacting owners to organise inspection and repair of the defect.

Vehicles included in the recall were sold between 1 November 2016 and 31 December 2019.

A full list of vehicle identification numbers of the 2627 cars involved in the recall can be found here .
