2020 Audi TT RS price and specs: Hot coupe returns to Oz

After a lengthy production delay, the hero RS will rejoin the Audi TT line-up in July.

Audi Australia has announced pricing and specification for its returning 2020 TT RS coupe ahead of a local showroom arrival in July. The refreshed coupe was revealed in February 2019, and was initially expected to make its Australian debut later that year.

However, delays tied to WLTP fuel consumption testing and necessary changes to its iconic five-cylinder engine, and demand for the more popular RS 3, saw the TT RS's arrival pushed back.

The 2020 Audi TT RS is priced from $134,900 plus on-road costs, making it $3000 cheaper than its pre-facelift form that launched here in 2017. By comparison, lower specification TT 45 TFSI quattro and TTS TFSI models ask $79,900 and $99,900 respectively before on-road costs.

Audi has retained the fan-favourite 2.5-litre turbocharged five-cylinder in the updated TT RS, with the brand claiming unchanged outputs of 294kW and 480Nm. This is compared to the 169kW/370Nm TT 45 TFSI and 210kW/380Nm TT TFSI.

A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and all-wheel drive layout help catapult the Audi TT RS from a standstill to 100km/h in just 3.7 seconds.

Despite the impressive acceleration, the TT RS uses only 8.0 litres of fuel per 100km, according to Audi. This is an improvement on the 8.4L/100km listed for the 2017 model.

The Audi TT RS gets sports suspension and electro-magnetic shock absorbers able to be varied between driver modes.

Externally, the TT RS wears a sportier front-end than lower-trim TT models, with larger air intakes and a revised grille surrounding the standard LED matrix headlights.

An RS-specific spoiler appears at the rear, and matrix OLED tail lights are available as an option.

The 2020 TT RS rides on 20-inch alloy wheels with 370mm brake discs and red eight-piston brake calipers tucked away up front.

Standard tech equipment on the 2020 Audi TT RS includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster – with a larger tachometer, coloured shift lights, g-force gauge and lap timing function, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless phone charging and voice command.

A 680 watt, 12-speaker Bang and Olufsen sound system is also fitted.

The 2020 Audi TT RS’s interior can be optioned with two ‘RS Design’ packages in either red or blue accenting.

The 2020 Audi TT RS is available with a three- and five-year capped price servicing plans priced at $2,320 and $3,420 each.
