2019-2020 Ram 1500 ute recalled for faulty windshield wipers

More than 2500 Australian examples of the Ram 1500 could have their wiper assemblies fail.

American Special Vehicles (ASV) – the Melbourne company responsible for converting US pick-up specialist Ram’s cars to right-hand drive for the Australian market – has issued a recall for 2540 of its 2019-2020 model-year 1500 pick-up trucks due to a defective windshield wiper assembly.

The recall notice, lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), says the defect relates to a faulty joint at the head of the wiper arm that may strip.

Ram Trucks Australia says if the joint does fail, the windshield wipers will not function as intended, reducing road visibility for drivers and increasing the risk of accident causing injury to vehicle occupants and other road users.

Ram Trucks Australia has said there are no known incidents of failure on Australian cars.

Ram Trucks Australia will notify owners of affected vehicles of the recall via mail to arrange inspection and repair of the faulty unit.

Affected vehicles were sold between 1 January 2019 and 15 May 2020. A full list of the vehicle identification numbers of the 2540 affected vehicles can be found here .
