2020 Audi A6 allroad quattro 45TDI price and specs

New jacked-up Audi A6 allroad joins local line-up with mild off-roading capability, wagon advantages and loads of added tech.

Australian pricing for the new fourth-generation 2020 Audi A6 allroad 45TDI has been announced, available in showrooms and through Audi's online purchasing platform.

Availability of the A6 allroad follows the phased local debut of the wider A6 range in 2019.

Its debut makes it the only wagon available in the A6 range, if a jacked-up and more SUV-like take on the concept.

The 2020 A6 allroad 45TDI is priced from $109,500 before on-road costs, which positions it in the middle of the A6 line-up above the $105,200 45TFSI quattro S Line sedan and below the $116,000 55TFSI quattro S Line sedan. (See full pricing at the bottom of this story.)

The previous 160kW/500Nm A6 Allroad, which launched in updated form back in 2015, was priced from $111,900 before on-road costs.

The 45TDI's 3.0-litre turbo diesel V6 offers 183kW and 600Nm, with a 0-100km/h time of 6.5 seconds. Power is sent to the quattro all-wheel drive system through an eight-speed 'tiptronic' torque converter automatic transmission.

Fuel use is a claimed 6.6L/100km on the combined cycle, and CO2 emissions are listed at 174g/km.

Although not available here, the European model offers two additional engine options: the 210kW/620Nm 50TDI and the 257kW/700Nm 55TDI.

Towing capacity is rated at 2.5 tonne braked, and the A6 allroad 45TDI boasts a decent 184mm in ground clearance. By comparison, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain lists 159mm, and the Volvo V90 Cross Country bests both at 210mm.

Key dimensions see the A6 allroad measure 4.95 metres long with a 2.93m wheelbase, standard running height is 1.5m tall while the width measures 1.9m. Internally, up to 565 litres of luggage space is available to the rear seats with 1680 litres available with the rear seats folded.

Standard kit with the A6 allroad 45TDI includes 20-inch alloy wheels, an electric tailgate with gesture control (wave your foot under bumper to open) and adaptive air suspension.

Inside, there's a three-spoke leather-trimmed steering wheel with shift paddles, along with heated sports seats up front, stainless steel pedals and footrest, frameless auto-dimming mirror, 'Extended' upholstery package with trim to the dash, door rails, centre console and door arm rests, and three-zone climate control (dual up front, single in the rear).

Standard technology includes Adaptive cruise assist with Stop&Go and traffic assist, Audi side assist with rear cross-traffic assist, collision avoidance assist and turn assist, intersection assist, exit warning (all of these 'assist' features are essentially alerts and autonomous braking), an active bonnet for pedestrian impact protection, head-up display, illuminated seat-belt buckles and loose wheel detection.

Audi claims the new A6 Allroad's feature list amounts to around $15,000 worth of included additional equipment over the previous model.

The one optional package is the $8900 Premium Plus package which adds privacy glass for rear (and rear side) windows, HD Matrix LED headlights, electric steering column adjustment, panoramic glass sunroof, Bang & Olufsen 3D Sound System, four-zone climate control, LED colour interior lighting package and a choice of two 21-inch alloy wheel options.
