2011 CITROEN C5 Update

Having seen the light of day back in 2008, the CITROËN C5 may not be a popular model here in Australia (having sold just 27 units in August), but it has done rather well around the world.

Available in both Sedan and Tourer shapes, Citroen says that it had sold over 200,000 C5s by May this year. So it's now time for a mid-life update and that comes in the form of minor exterior changes and additional technological features.

It's hard to improve on what we think is one of the better looking cars on the road today, as such the 2011 Citroen C5 retains most of its current styling with minor updates made to the headlamps. As is the trend these days, the updated front end gains specially designed LEDs for that new-age light signature look.

Under the bonnet, Citroen has added e-HDi micro-hybrid technology which combines Stop & Start as well as an electronic gearbox systems with the company's HDi 110 DPFS diesel engine.

That results in an impressive fuel economy figure of just 4.6L/100 km, while emitting 120 g/km of CO2.

Citroen will also equip the C5 with a new-generation 2.2-litre HDi engine (the first model to make use of the engine). The Citroen C5 HDi 200 DPFS outputs 150kW at 3,500 rpm and 450Nm from 2,000 rpm.

Only available with a six-speed automatic gearbox, the new engine will blast the C5 to its top speed of 230 km/h (225 km/h for the Tourer).

The traditional 0-100 km/h sprint is reached in 8.3 seconds (8.6 for Tourer) while the fuel economy figures remain at 5.9L/100 km (155 g/km of CO2) and 6.1L/100km (159 g/km of CO2).

The 2011 Citroen C5 will go on sale in Europe towards the end of this year, Australian release date should follow soon after.
