Mercedes-Benz has unveiled its facelifted 2021 E-Class lineup ahead of an Australian arrival in October.

The updated Mercedes-Benz E-Class models get a new grille, redesigned LED tail lights, four extra paint colour options – including high-tech silver, graphite grey metallic, mojave silver and patagonia red – and ‘aero’ wheels.

The new steering wheel is fitted with sensors that detect when a driver’s hands are no longer in contact.

When a driver’s hands have not been on the steering wheel for a certain period, a series of warnings will be displayed, with the system eventually activating the vehicle’s emergency brake assist if the driver does not respond.

All refreshed E-Class models get the latest generation of Mercedes-Benz’s MBUX infotainment system, with two 10.25-inch screens next to each other showing the digital instrument cluster and media display. Larger 12.3-inches can are optional.

The facelifted E-Class models also get Mercedes-Benz’s ‘energising coach’, a system that fights driver fatigue by changing settings in the air conditioning, sound system, and seat heating, cooling and massage functions.

The refreshed E-Class range will consist of diesel E220d and E400d models and petrol E200, E300 and E450, however not all variants may come to Australia.

The 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel four-cylinder found in the E220d produces 143kW and 400Nm, while the 3.0-litre turbocharged diesel six-cylinder in the E400d makes 250kW and 700Nm.

E200 and E300 models get a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that generates 145kW and 320Nm in the E200, with the E300’s unit getting a boost to 190kW and 370Nm.

Mercedes-Benz’s 4Matic all-wheel drive layout can be optioned on E220d, E400d, E200 and E450 trims, with all variants offered in coupe and convertible layouts.

All Mercedes-Benz E-Class variants use a nine-speed torque-converter automatic transmission.
