May 20, 2020: Mercedes-Benz has announced price and equipment lists for the new GLB seven-seat small SUV ahead of its Australian showroom arrival next month.

The Mercedes-Benz GLB will be available in three model grades, beginning at $59,900 plus on-road costs for the GLB 200 and $73,900 plus on-road costs for the GLB 250 4Matic. These models are expected to arrive next month.

The range-topping Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 4Matic will cost $88,900 plus on-road costs when it arrives in showrooms later this year.

The new Mercedes-Benz GLB models measure 2829mm between the front and rear wheels – 100mm longer than the brand’s B-Class hatchback.

Despite this relatively diminutive length, the GLB seats seven – however Mercedes-Benz does say the two seats in the third row are only suitable for passengers up to 168cm tall.

The second row of seats can slide 140mm forward and a total of four ISOFIX mounting points are also spread among the five rear seats.

The Mercedes-Benz GLB comes with active parking technology, lane-keeping and brake assist, blind-spot warning, speed sign recognition and adaptive high beam.

Mercedes’ MBUX infotainment software with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto comes as standard across all variants, displayed on dual 10.25-inch touchscreens placed side-by-side on the dash.

A screen placed behind the steering wheel displays the instrument cluster, while the other is placed near the centre of the dash to adjust other systems in the car.

All models can also be registered with the Mercedes me Connect app, allowing various vehicle functions to be controlled via a smartphone.

Each trim of the Mercedes-Benz GLB receives a different engine and drivetrain package.

Power in the Mercedes-Benz GLB 200 comes from a 1.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 120kW and 250Nm sent through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission to the front wheels.

The Mercedes-Benz GLB 250 4Matic is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine generating 165kW and 350Nm, while the Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 4Matic’s AMG-tuned 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder unit pumps out 225kW and 400Nm.

Both Mercedes-Benz GLB 250 4Matic and Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 4Matic models get all-wheel drive layouts and are shifted through an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The GLB 35’s transmission receives additional tuning from AMG.

As standard equipment, the entry-level Mercedes-Benz GLB 200 gets keyless entry and engine start, automatic electric tailgate, 'Artico' upholstered seats, automatic multi-zone climate control, cruise control (with active cruise as an option), satellite navigation and illuminated door sills.

A leather multi-function steering wheel with shift buttons, 19-inch alloy wheels, aluminium roof rails, rain-sensing wipers and a reversing camera also feature as standard on the Mercedes-Benz GLB 200.

Moving up to the Mercedes-AMG GLB 250 4Matic scores all the standard equipment of the Mercedes-Benz GLB 200 plus a panoramic sunroof and electric and heated front seats with memory function.

Further to this, adjustable suspension, 19-inch twin-spoke design alloy wheels, and an off-road engineering pack – that includes downhill speed regulation, anti-lock braking system intervention for off-road driving and an off-road light function – all feature as standard on the Mercedes-AMG GLB 250 4Matic.

Going to the top-level Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 4Matic gets AMG speed-sensitive power steering and AMG ride control sports suspension with electronic damping as standard.

The Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 4Matic also gets further styling, including a Nappa leather-trimmed steering wheel with a drive mode controller, sports seats upholstered in Lugano leather and an energising comfort control that Mercedes claims can alter the mood of the cabin.

AMG stainless steel pedals, carbon fibre interior trim, AMG body styling and badging, dark-tinted privacy glass, black roof rails and a ‘night package’ exterior trim package also comes as standard on the Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 4Matic.

The Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 4Matic rides on 20-inch 5-twin-spoke alloy wheels as standard.

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLB will be available from showrooms later this year.
