BMW tuning company Alpina has announced pricing and specification for its new XB7 seven-seater SUV ahead of its Australian arrival in early 2021.

The XB7 – based on a BMW X7 M50i xDrive – receives Alpina’s signature touches including increased engine power, improved driving dynamics and styling changes inside and out.

The 2021 Alpina XB7 comes in one trim, opening at $264,900 plus on-road costs – placing the model at a $85,000 premium over the $179,900 (plus on-road costs) BMW X7 M50i xDrive on which it's based.

The Alpina XB7 picks up the 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine from the X7 M50i xDrive, but outputs are increased from 390kW and 750Nm to a claimed 457kW and 800Nm.

That additional power is sent through an eight-speed torque-converter automatic transmission and an Alpina-tuned version of BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive system with an electronically-variable limited-slip rear differential.

Valves in the Alpine XB7’s exhaust system can also be operated via driver modes including sport, sport+, comfort and comfort+ to give the V8 more bark.

These drive modes also change settings in the XB7’s air suspension and can adjust ride height by up to 40mm. An all-wheel steering system and electromagnetic anti-sway bars also helps keep the XB7 planted.

The Alpina XB7 rides on 21-inch alloy wheels as standard, however buyers can option 23-inch forged alloy wheels. Behind the wheels are four-piston Brembo brake calipers up front and floating calipers in the rear finished in Alpina blue.

Buyers can also opt for a high-performance brake system which sees the addition of light-weight drilled brake discs and sportier brake pads.

Inside, the XB7’s three rows of seats which Alpina says can "generously accommodate six or seven occupants" are wrapped in Lavalina leather. Subtle touches such as a laser-etched Alpina logo in the iDrive controller also differentiate the model.

Outside, the model receives more aggressive front and rear bumper styling with Alpina badging and a focus on reduced aerodynamic lift at high speeds.

The 2021 Alpina XB7 is covered by a three-year/unlimited km warranty and can be serviced at BMW dealerships. The model is slated for Australian release in early 2021.
