Bentley Bentayga recalled because seat belts may detach

Seat belts for the third row of seats may detach from the car's body in the event of a crash.

British luxury brand Bentley has issued a recall for 67 examples of its 2018-2020 Bentayga seven-seater SUV due to a faulty seat belt anchorage point.

Petrol V8, petrol W12 and diesel V8 models are affected.

The recall notice, lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), says the anchorage point for the third row seat belts may not meet legal load requirements.

Bentley says that if the anchorage points fail during a crash, it may result in the seat belts detaching from the car’s body and occupants not being properly restrained.

A passenger not being properly restrained could result in serious injury or death, says the recall notice.

CarAdvice has contacted Bentley regarding any known failures in Australia or globally and will update this story with the response.

Bentley is contacting owners of affected vehicles by mail to have them contact their nearest dealer to arrange inspection and repair.

A full list of vehicle identification numbers of the 67 cars involved in the recall can be found here .

Affected vehicles were sold in Australia between 13 March 2017 and 20 January 2020.
