Porsche upgrades its Track Precision App for iPhones

Porsche has updated its Track Precision App – which analyses a driver's performance corner-by-corner at most major racetracks around the world – for owners of Apple iPhones.

Compatible with current generation Porsche 911 and Porsche 718 models, the updated Track Precision App Version 3.2 will now use Apple Car Play to access telemetry data collected by the car – including satellite positioning, throttle and brake inputs, G-forces and engine revs.

The data will be projected on the infotainment screen.

Previously, the Track precision App ran independently to the car, using the phone’s inbuilt sensors to calculate location, speed and forces generated.

Further to the new Apple Car Play accessibility, the application has received an additional 100 pre-programmed race tracks, taking the total to more than 300 international circuits.

Of the 300 circuits, 12 are Australian – including Bathurst, Albert Park, Phillip Island, The Bend, Sydney Motorsport Park, Barbagallo, Hidden Valley, Sandown, Winton, Queensland Raceway, Wakefield Park and Mallala.

While the application is also available for Android devices, Porsche's infotainment system does not offer Android Auto (Android’s car interface software).

While Android owners can access the updated application, it will not be able to extract data from the car.

Last month, Porsche released its Porsche Classic Communications Management (PCCM) system – a bolt-in system for older models that allows the cars to run Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
