Reports from German publication, Der Spiegel, quoted Volkswagen boss, Winterkorn, as saying about the project, "A new SUV, a smaller brother to the Cayenne which might be named Cajun."
So although early reports rumoured the new car to be called the 'Roxster', comments from the Volkswagen boss say otherwise. The all-new model is expected to make its way into the market by 2015.
Reports also say the new model could be based on the Audi Q5 platform which is a medium to small four-wheel drive. With the Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne and Volkswagen Touareg all based on the same PL71 platform, it becomes fairly predictable that the company will be using the Audi Q5 to some degree for the Cajun model.
It's too early to confirm what sort of engines the new car will be offered with, rumours speculate a turbo-diesel variant as well as a possible Porsche 3.6-litre V6 version.
