Lotus releases Australia-only Exige Sport 410 Targa Edition

The limited edition model pays homage to a legendary Australian motorsport event that was cancelled for 2020.

English sports car maker Lotus has announced a limited edition, Australian-exclusive Exige Sport 410 Targa Edition to pay tribute to the Targa Tasmania tarmac rally competition.

The Exige Sport 410 Targa Edition is priced from $174,990 before on-road costs, with only 10 examples to be produced with a unique, numbered interior build plate.

The model’s release pays homage to what was supposed to be the 29th running of the Targa Tasmania Tarmac Rally, however the event was cancelled this year due to COVID-19.

The Targa Edition is based on the Exige Sport 410 but gains unique side air intakes, a new rear wing, and ‘Targa Limited Edition’ decals.

Lotus has further equipped the model with Targa-inspired equipment including carbon fibre race seats, a four-point seatbelt safety harness and an accompanying harness bar, a fire extinguisher and additional towing hardware – meaning the Targa Edition meets competition regulations.

Customers can also option a full roll cage should they wish to enter higher levels of competition.

The Targa Edition costs $5000 more than the Exige Sport 410 on which it is based, however Lotus says optioning all of the model’s additional kit on a standard Sport 410 would cost buyers more than $12,500.

Powered by the same 3.5-litre supercharged V6 (305kW/420Nm) and six-speed manual transmission as the Exige Sport 410, the Targa Edition covers the 0 to 100km/h dash in a claimed 3.4 seconds on the way to a top speed of 280km/h.

The Lotus Targa Edition comes standard with race-oriented parts fitted to the Exige Sport 410 that separate it from the more basic Exige Sport 350 model.

The extra kit includes a carbon fibre aero package, forged alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres, and larger two-piece brake discs clamped by forged four-piston AP Racing brake calipers.

The model can also be equipped with other options available on standard Exige Sport 410 and Sport 350 models.
