2021 BMW 5 Series revealed early as official images leaked online

The updated 2021 BMW 5 Series sedan has been laid bare in leaked official photos ahead of its debut globally later this year.

The facelifted BMW 5 Series is expected to go on sale in Australia in late 2020 or early 2021. Drive has reached out to BMW Australia for specific local timing and will update this story once we hear back.

First surfacing on Germancarforum.com, the photos show what appear to be brochure images of the 2021 BMW 5 Series, detailing subtle changes to the front-end styling, tail-lights, and exhaust design.

Air intakes in the front bumper have been enlarged, and the grille appears more angular – confirming the updated BMW 5 Series has not received the controversial ‘tall’ kidney grille design that its smaller BMW 4 Series sibling has been seen wearing in spy photos.

The daytime running lights are now clearly shown, similar in design to what the smaller BMW 3 Series sedan receives.

The BMW 5 Series is set for a range of engines including the plug-in hybrid unit used in the BMW 745e xDrive. In the former of the BMW 545e, the new variant is expected to replace the existing BMW 530e.

When will the updated 2021 5 Series come to Australia?

Australian timing for the refreshed BMW 5 Series still to be confirmed, particularly as its is yet to be unveiled in Europe. Drive has contacted BMW Australia for comment.
