2020 BMW X2 facelift spied

Munich’s smallest SUV spotted, sporting new grille and updated headlights.

BMW’s X2 is approaching its third birthday later this year, and the Bavarian carmaker is preparing a mid-life facelift for its compact coupe-styled crossover.

Images captured by our spy photography partners reveal the bulk of the updates to the X2 LCI – standing for Life Cycle Impulse, or facelift in non-BMW parlance – will be concentrated around the front end, where a new grille is believed to be hiding behind this prototype’s protective cover, flanked by revised LED headlights inspired by BMW’s latest models.

The circular fog lights seemingly installed below the headlights are just stickers, intended to conceal a revised light design underneath.

The test car spied displays no updates at the rear, suggesting the current X2’s rump will carry over unchanged to the facelifted model – an observation supported by the part-unveiling of the post-facelift, X2 xDrive25e plug-in hybrid earlier this year, which wore a rear end virtually identical to the existing pre-facelift range.

Aside from the confirmed addition of the aforementioned hybrid model, little is known about what will sit under the bonnet, though it’s expected the current range of turbocharged three- and four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines will carry over unchanged.

Inside, if the facelifted X1 revealed in July last year is anything to go by, expect changes to the updated X2 to be minor, likely consisting of no more than a larger infotainment display and new trim options.

The facelifted 2020 BMW X2 is expected to be unveiled sometime this year, with an Australian launch likely to follow a few months after its global debut.
