Champion US Nascar driver Joey Logano will join the Supercars All Stars Eseries competition next week as the wildcard entrant, with Supercars champion Craig Lowndes also expressing interest in the series.
Logano – the 2015 Daytona 500 winner and 2018 Nascar Cup Series Champion – will race against the majority of real-life Australian Supercars racing drivers in round four of the Eseries in virtual simulations of Montreal’s Circuit Gilles Villeneuve and New York’s Watkins Glen tracks.
“I’m pumped to be racing among the Supercars drivers. Like all professional race car drivers, they are supremely talented at what they do,” Logano said in a media statement.
“I’m not going to hold back, though I know it’s going to be tough against a lot of these guys. I’m hoping some of my experience in running on road courses in the Cup Series will benefit me.”
Logano will join as the wildcard entrant, a position that has gained prestige following F1 star Max Verstappen’s round two entry in his Eseries debut where he impressed with three podium finishes from four race starts.
Last night, Aussie IndyCar driver Will Power took the wildcard spot for round three at Mount Panorama, securing sixth, 11th and 10th across the three races of the round. Shane van Gisbergen, Favian Coulthard and Scott McLaughlin each secured a win in round three.
Former V8 Supercars champion Craig Lowndes has also expressed interest in competing in the Eseries as a wildcard entrant.
“I would be keen to throw my hat in the ring, for sure,” the three-time V8 Supercars champion told Speedcafe.
“I think it’s fantastic that the drivers are still able to be interactive and super competitive, although it’s obviously a virtual setting.”
The Supercars All Stars Eseries was conceived as an electronic solution to postponement of the race calendar due to COVID-19.
Round four of the All Stars Eseries will get underway 29 April from 7-9pm AEST. A live broadcast will be available on Fox Sports, Kayo, Sky Sports (NZ) and 10 Play.
Races are also available online via Supercars' Facebook page and Supercars’ Teams Facebook pages.
