Audi e-tron, Volkswagen T-Cross get five-star safety rating

Both cars were tested by Euro NCAP and subject to a full-width frontal collision at 50km/h, a dynamic offset frontal collision at 64km/h – due to 2019 testing standards – side impact at 50km/h, a side pole impact at 32km/h, and whiplash assessment for front and rear occupants.

ANCAP also tests the vehicles' autonomous emergency braking system in close 100 different scenarios spanning a range of speeds and conditions.

Further to these, tests for child occupant protection, vulnerable road user protection and safety assist features were also conducted.

Volkswagen T-Cross scored an average of 86 per cent across adult occupant protection, child occupant protection, vulnerable road user protection and safety assist tests.

"The T-Cross, Volkswagen’s new small SUV provides an impressive safety offering to the segment," an ANCAP spokesperson said.

The full-electric e-tron's received an average score of 82 per cent for the same tests. Its five star rating applies from July 2019 onwards, due to New Zealand receiving the model last year.

"The battery electric Audi e-tron is well-equipped with a range of safety features and technologies, and offers a high level of protection to child occupants," ANCAP said of the e-tron.

Both cars are equipped with autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning and emergency lane keeping as standard.

The Volkswagen T-Cross is scheduled for Australian release this month, with the Audi e-tron to follow later in the year.
