The name of Subaru’s new electric SUV has been revealed – report
Subaru has teamed with Toyota to develop an electric SUV. This is a concept car, but the showroom version is in development.
The name of Subaru's all-electric SUV has potentially been revealed, with overseas media reports claiming the new arrival will be called the Subaru Evoltis.
Japanese auto website Spyder7 was the first to disclose the name of the car, which will be a medium-sized crossover SUV co-developed with Toyota.
The 'Evoltis' moniker is one Subaru registered as a trademark in the United States back in 2018.
Spyder7 claims the vehicle could make its world debut as early as October 2021.
The car is expected to be based on an unnamed concept vehicle Subaru designed in partnership with Toyota, which made its debut in front of Japanese media at a technology conference in Tokyo earlier this year.

As of mid-2019, Subaru has been working in tandem with Toyota to jointly develop a new electric vehicle platform suitable for mid-sized and large passenger cars, including sedans and crossovers.
Additionally, the companies said they would use this new EV architecture to develop a new c-segment crossover together, with each brand selling a version of this vehicle.
According to Spyder7, Subaru's Evoltis will be a "more aggressive" version of the concept car it showed earlier this year, featuring a "larger hexagon grille" and "bold LED headlights".
The new powertrain will reportedly allow for a maximum output of around 213kW for the Evoltis, which will apparently be 4WD-capable as standard and will be equipped with a large-capacity lithium-ion battery with a range of up to 500km.
A spokesperson for Subaru Australia told CarAdvice it was too early to know whether the all-electric SUV will make its way to Australia.
However, Subaru Australia said it would certainly be "interested" in the electric vehicle if it became available.
"Of course we're interested in any technologies coming from Subaru Corporation," the Subaru Australia spokesperson said.
"We've launched our first mild hybrids locally this year and Subaru has stated they're increasingly exploring technologies in that direction.
"In terms of finer details, we're not aware of any at this stage, in terms of timelines for both the domestic Japanese market or overseas markets."
Subaru has previously said it will globally transition to an all-electric vehicle lineup by the mid-2030s.
Subaru Australia launched its first hybrid models – the XV and Forester – in February this year, with the initial allocation for both swiftly selling out.
