2021 Nissan X-Trail leaked – UPDATE: June 15 unveiling announced

Months after revealing images of the next-gen SUV surfaced online, Nissan has finally confirmed a big reveal.

UPDATE: Nissan of America has confirmed a June 15 unveiling for its new Rogue, which should come to Australia in the coming months as the new-generation 2021 Nissan X-Trail. The big reveal is set to occur at 9am Eastern time in the US, or 11pm Australian Eastern Standard Time.

A single teaser image, shown above, accompanied the announcement. The images further down, while not confirmed, are believed to be leaked marketing shots of the new model.

April 17, 2020: Two weeks after revealing patent images surfaced out of Brazil, new images of the upcoming 2021 Nissan X-Trail have leaked online, showing the hotly-anticipated SUV inside and out.

Posted on the Worldscoop forum, the set of images appear to be official press photos – but, until the car’s official reveal, that will be impossible to confirm.

The red example shown in the photos appears to confirm much of what we saw in the patent filing, a boxy design that’s considerably chunkier than that of its ageing predecessor.

Up front there’s an upright and wide interpretation of the company’s V-Motion grille, flanked by split LED headlights mounted above a pair of sculpted air intakes.

Like the outgoing model, the new X-Trail’s tail lights are mounted high up on the bodywork, with the tailgate-mounted licence plate cutout, ’ROGUE’ badging (as the crossover is known in North America) and a rugged silver skid plate all sitting below.

It’s inside where perhaps the biggest changes have taken place, with a more premium look heavily inspired by Nissan’s latest Juke, Altima and Sentra models.

In front of the driver debuts an all-digital, customisable instrument cluster, complemented by a new infotainment touchscreen that’s larger and more contemporary in design than the outgoing unit.

Below the screen there’s a pair of slim air vents and an array of higher-quality climate control switchgear.

Other interior elements include a more compact shifter for the automatic transmission, plus a rotary off-road drive mode selector, brown/black leather trim and quilted seat upholstery – the latter two likely exclusive to the top-spec Platinum trim, as denoted by the badge on the tailgate.

The ‘AWD’ badge on the rear indicates we’re looking at an all-paw version of the new X-Trail, though the nature of engine powering it is unknown.

Previous reports have suggested it could be a development of the previous-generation model’s 2.5-litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder, though the variable-compression 2.0-litre turbo-four from the Infiniti QX50 is also on the cards.

The 2021 Nissan X-Trail is expected to make its full debut in US-spec, Rogue form in the coming months, ahead of a confirmed launch in the ‘States later this year.

While Nissan Australia couldn’t officially confirm a local arrival date for the redesigned crossover, a mid to late 2021 launch would be likely for our Japan-built, Australian-delivered version.
