Toyota Australia has issued a recall of 780 of its model-year 2020 Corolla hatch petrol (MZEA12 model code) and hybrid (ZWE211 model code) cars due to faulty reverse light wiring.

Toyota lists 661 of the vehicles as being sold between 5-12 December 2019, while the other 119 remain in dealer stock.

The defect relates to electrical components in the rear hatch that may be susceptible to corrosion resulting in reduced lamp function in the reversing lights.

Toyota reports that if the reversing lights don't operate as intended there could be an increased risk of a collision.

Toyota Australia is contacting all owners of affected vehicles for inspection and repair of the potentially faulty part.

Vehicle Identification Numbers (VIN) for the 780 affected vehicles fall between the ranges below (please note, not all VINs within these ranges were sold in Australia):

  • 2020 Toyota Corolla ZWE211 hybrid - 03015978 to 03016472
  • 2020 Toyota Corolla MZEA12 petrol - 03087691 to 0308974
