2021 Audi RS5 Coupe and Sportback: New images

Nardo grey and a drop-dead beautiful Sonoma green on show for Audi's new hero coupe and its liftback companion.

UPDATE, July 15 2020: Australian pricing for the updated 2021 Audi RS5 models has now been announced. Details here.

Audi has handed down a set of new photos for its refreshed RS5 Coupe and RS5 Sportback twins, first revealed in December ahead of an Australian debut set for the third quarter of this year.

The coupe is shown here in the popular Nardo grey and its liftback twin wears Sonoma green on matte bronze wheels (which this writer has dubbed The Ideal Specification RS5 (TIS RS5)).

Both cars are mechanically unchanged, for the most part, from the pre-facelift (or 'downdate') models that launched here in 2017 and 2018 respectively.

That means there's a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 powering each, sending 331kW and 600Nm to Audi's quattro all-wheel drive system through an eight-speed automatic. The 0-100km/h sprint is claimed to be covered in 3.9 seconds.

On the styling front, the new RS5 twins get new lighting signatures at both ends with the 'caution tape' LED design making its way across the Audi line-up.

The bumpers at both ends are also lightly revised for the new model year.

In its standard form, the new RS5s ride on 19-inch wheels wrapped in 265/35 rubber, and the optional 20-inch wheels can be had in grey, gloss black or matt bronze finishes.

Two new paint choices have been added to the RS5's roster: Turbo Blue and Tango Red. (The blue featured in our earlier article.)

The dynamic handling system picks up two driver customisable modes (RS1 and RS2) in addition to the comfort, auto, and dynamic modes.

For European buyers, the options list includes laser light matrix LED headlamps with blacked out bezels, Nappa leather seats, a 12.3-inch virtual cockpit instrumentation screen, head-up display, and a even sportier suspension package with hydraulic roll and pitch stabilisation.

Australian details are still to be confirmed, but we should find out more in the weeks leading up to the new RS5 duo's third-quarter 2020 launch.
