Nissan sets production target to 1.2 million units in China

Nissan is among many car makers who are seeing rapid sales hikes in China, the fastest growing automotive market. And to push further into the market, Nissan has set its sales target to 1.2 million for 2012, almost double that of the current target.

As reported by Automotive News recently, Nissan is serious about reaching the target and has built a second production plant in the country to cater for such goals. The $158 million Zhengzhou plant will have an annual capacity of 180,000 cars.

Nissan CEO, Carlos Ghosn, said in the report,

"China is now the second-largest economy in the world, and our ambitions and actions are aligned with the current reality.”

Nissan motor company currently takes up 6 percent of the market share in China but wants to increase that to 10 percent. To do this Nissan will open up a third production plant in Guangzhou’s Huadu district in 2012. Ghosn said,

"We are systematically increasing our capacity in order to make sure we are not only keeping our market share but also trying to grow our market share."

Nissan currently makes and sells the Nissan Teana and the Nissan Sylphy in China with Chinese partner Dongfeng Motor Group Co.
