Volkswagen Australia has announced the addition of its entire new car range to its online ordering system.

The ordering system – first introduced in January for the brand’s anticipated T-Roc model – will allow customers to configure and personalise vehicles online. The T-Cross will also be available through the online system when it launches this month.

Volkswagen's initiative is designed to support its dealer network, with the designated dealership contacting customers within two days of a $500 deposit being placed on a model.

From there, the dealer will help guide buyers through the buying process and manage delivery of the vehicle.

Volkswagen’s online service also offers a car valuation process, providing an estimate for those looking to trade in.

CarAdvice believes Volkswagen Australia may offer the online system more permanently, pending its success in this initial phase.

The move follows a series made by Australian car dealers to reduce face-to-face contact during the coronavirus pandemic.

Last week, Ford announced a contactless pick up and drop off initiative for all maintenance and repairs.

Car dealerships and workshops have remained open during this time after being deemed essential services.
