Toyota recalls 45,683 cars due to fuel pump issue

Toyota Australia has issued a recall of 45,683 cars.

They include the model-year 2013-2019 Camry (GSV70), Corolla (ZRE172), FJ Cruiser (GSJ15), Kluger (GSU50 and GSU55), HiLux (TGN121), Prado (GRJ150) and Landcruiser (URJ202) models.

Affected vehicles were sold between 11 October 2013 and 3 April 2020.

Lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), the defect relates to a fuel pump that may fail.

If the fuel pump fails, the engine may not run smoothly, resulting in the engine stalling and being unable to restart. The failure will also be accompanied by warning lights and messages on the instrument panel.

Toyota Australia reports that a pump failure may result in a loss of power while driving, increasing the risk of accident causing injury to occupants and other road users.

At the time of publishing, no Australian vehicles had experienced the failure.

Toyota Australia is contacting all known owners of affected vehicles to notify them of the recall. The brand will contact these customers again to arrange inspection and replacement when parts become available.

Toyota expects this to begin from June 2020.
