2014-2015 Renault Clio recalled for defective front windscreen wipers, faulty fastening of rear spoiler

Renault Australia has issued two recalls for its 2014-2015 Clio hatchback due to a defective front windscreen wiper component and faulty fastening of rear spoilers on some variants.

Recall: windscreen wiper

Renault Australia has issued a recall of 5881 of its model-year 2014-2015 Clio IV due to a defective front windscreen wiper component.

Affected vehicles were sold between 1 August 2013 and 31 December 2016.

Lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), the defect relates to linkage between the front windscreen wipers and motor which may fail.

Renault Australia reports that if the linkage fails, front windscreen wipers may not operate as intended, resulting in obscured driver vision in rainy conditions and an increased risk of accident causing injury to occupants and other road users.

At the time of publishing, there are no known incidents of failure on Australian cars.

Renault Australia is contacting all known owners of affected vehicles to arrange inspection and repair of the faulty unit.

A full list of vehicle identification numbers of the 5881 cars included in the recall can be found here.

Recall: rear spoiler

Renault Australia has issued a recall of 1966 examples of its model-year 2014-2015 Clio IV RS and Clio IV GT due to an incorrectly fitted rear spoiler.

Affected vehicles were sold between 1 October 2013 to 31 August 2016.

Lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), the defect relates to fastening of the rear spoiler assembly.

Renault Australia reports that if the upper part of the rear spoiler detaches from the vehicle, it may increase risk of accident by colliding with another vehicle or causing other drivers to take evasive action.

Drive has been told there have instances of the spoiler detaching, however they have not resulted in an incident.

Renault Australia is contacting all known owners of affected vehicles to arrange inspection and repair of the faulty unit.

A full list of vehicle identification numbers of the 1966 cars included in the recall can be found here.
