Lexus recalls more than 6000 vehicles affected by a faulty fuel pump

Lexus Australia has issued a recall of 6610 of its model-year 2013-2019 IS (ASE30 and GSE31), GS (ARL10, GLR10/11/12 and GWL10), RX (GGL2# and GYL2#), LC (GWZ100 and URZ100), LS (USF40, GVF50, VXFA50 and UVF4#), LX (URJ201), NX (AGZ1#) (pictured above), RC (ASC10 and GSC10), and IS-F (USE20) models due to a faulty fuel pump.

Affected models were sold between 27 September 2013 and 29 February 2020.

Lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), the defect relates to a fuel pump assembly that may fail, meaning the engine may not run smoothly and could stall and be unable to restart. The failure will also be accompanied by warning lights and messages on the instrument panel.

Lexus Australia reports that a pump failure may result in a loss of power while driving, increasing the risk of accident causing injury to occupants and other road users.

At time of publishing, no Australian vehicles had suffered the failure.

Lexus Australia is contacting all known owners of affected vehicles to notify them of the recall. The brand will contact these customers again to arrange inspection and replacement when parts become available.

Lexus expects this to begin from June 2020.
