‘Fast and Furious’ Dodge Charger gets the Lego treatment

The Dodge Charger muscle car from the Fast & Furious movies is the latest motoring icon to get the Lego treatment.

The latest addition to the Lego Technic range, Dom’s Dodge Charger, replicates the modified 1970 Dodge Charger R/T driven by Vin Diesel’s character Dominic Toretto in various films from the franchise.

With 1077 pieces, the finished kit measures 39cm long, 19cm wide and 11cm high with a price tag of $179.99.

The kit's price – and its 10-plus age recommendation – puts it in the middle of the Technic range between easier and more affordable kits ike the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 priced at $50 and more expensive kits such as the Bugatti Chiron, which costs upwards of $500.

Due in stores late April, the set features typical Technic details such a moving pistons and operational suspension and steering systems. It even comes with a novel wheel-stand mode modification and two bottles of nitrous in the boot.

While Lego has licensed a huge array of car kits from numerous carmakers across its various ranges, Dom’s Dodge Charger follows the recent Bond Aston Martin DB5 Lego kit as a rare intersection between popular film and automotive franchises.

Needless to say, the idea is to appeal to petrolheads, movie fans and Lego aficionados alike.

Meanwhile, hardcore Lego enthusiasts are still awaiting this year’s big car kit release: a yet-to-be-unveiled Lamborghini model as the third Technic Ultimate instalment behind the Chiron and Porsche 911 GT3 RS.

Following the release of the Lego Fiat 500, initial rumours were that the next Lego Lamborghini would be the Sian, though it’s increasingly feasible that it will be the new Aventador replacement.

Much like last year’s Land Rover Defender, the launch of the production car and Lego replica could well be timed to coincide with one another mid-year (even though the Lego Defender effectively leaked the design of the real thing).
