Bentley’s third generation of its Continental GT V8 has arrived in Australia, available in both coupe and convertible configurations.

Pricing for the Continental GT V8 Coupe starts at $400,900, with the Continental GT V8 Convertible beginning from $441,300. Prices are before on-road costs.

Both variants are powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 producing 404kW and 770Nm. Bentley claims the 0-100km/h time for both models at four seconds, with a top speed of 318km/h.

Efficiency of the V8 is increased by way of cylinder deactivation technology, allowing the engine to switch off four of its cylinders and effectively run as a 2.0-litre four cylinder unit under certain conditions. Bentley claims the cylinders can be turned off and reignited in only 20 milliseconds and that the transition is imperceivable to drivers.

The V8 sends its power through an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive system. The system favours rear torque bias for efficiency, but is able to send power to the front wheels when needed for performance.

The Continental GT V8 models ride on 20-inch, 10-spoke painted alloy wheels as standard. Buyers can choose from nine other wheel options spanning up to 22-inches.

Body paint is offered in seven standard colours, however customers can option an “extensive palate” of additional colours.

Roof fabric on the GT V8 Convertible can be had in seven colours, including a tweed finish for the first time. Opening and closing time for the roof is claimed at 19 seconds, operational at speeds up to 50km/h.

Both models feature LED headlights as standard.

Inside the Continental GT V8 and GT V8 Convertible, 20-way adjustable leather seats are trimmed in a monotone colour split. Buyers can also option from four other colour split choices available with contrast stitching, piping and hand cross stitch finishes.

The heated and ventilated seats also integrate a neck-warmer (that Bentley claims is warmer and quieter than previous iterations). A centre vane mirroring Bentley’s signature ‘bullseye’ vents adorns each neck-warmer.

For the first time, Crown Cut Walnut features on interior fascias. Bentley also offers other “exquisite” wood options for various interior veneers.

Drivers get a fully digital instrument panel as standard and can option Bentley’s ‘Rotating Display’, featuring dash veneers that revolve to reveal a 12.3-inch touchscreen.

A 10-speaker audio system produces a combined 650 watts.

Continental GT V8 models receive driver assistance features including Active Lane Assist, Traffic Jam Assist and Park Assist.

Bentley’s Drive Dynamics selector allows drivers to select driving dynamics ranging from comfort to sport modes and a Dynamic Ride System can be optioned, controlling body roll by use of adjustable front and rear anti-roll bars.

Air suspension with Continuous Damping Control provides additional comfort and sportiness and further increases adjustability of driver modes by adapting to road conditions on the fly.

Electric Power-Assisted steering also utilises a variable rack ratio that adjusts how much steering input is required for manoeuvres depending on conditions.
