Audi Q5 Sportback confirmed, due to be unveiled later this year
Yet another SUV with a coupe-like sloping rear roofline is due to join Audi's 2020 line-up.
Audi has confirmed its new Q5 Sportback – based on the latest generation Q5 pictured above and below – will debut this year as part of 20 models the German brand hopes to release across 2020.
Announced by Audi chairman Bram Schot during the carmaker’s 2019 annual results, the Q5 Sportback – a Q5 wagon but with a sloping, coupe-like rear roofline – will arrive alongside updated A3 and Q2, but will be the only completely new addition to the brand's line-up this year.
With an emphasis on Audi’s electric future in Mr Schot’s statement – including a global sales figure of 32,000 for its first full-electric model, the e-Tron – expect some Q5 Sportback models to be available with hybrid and/or electrification.
"In 2020, we will further expand our portfolio and plan to offer four completely new plug-in hybrid models," Mr Schot said. "This will enable our customers to opt for a hybrid model in more than half of our model series for the first time.
"The range of all-electric and plug-in hybrid models will grow significantly this year: We will then have five all-electric and twelve hybrid models."
The recently-spied 2020 Q5 is expected to feature a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, with one or more hybrid options on offer as well.
The Q5 Sportback should take aim at rivals Mercedes-Benz’s GLC Coupe and BMW’s X4.
