2020 Ford Focus ST gets the Mountune treatment, but not in Australia

The UK performance tuner has worked its magic on the new generation Ford Focus ST, however there are no plans to introduce the option pack here.

UK Ford tuning expert Mountune has worked its magic on the new-generation Focus ST hot hatch to boost power and performance.

However, Australian owners will likely miss out on the upgrade option even though Mountune kits were offered through Ford dealers for the previous generation Focus ST and Fiesta ST.

“At this stage we have no plans to offer Mountune in Australia,” a Ford Australia spokesperson told CarAdvice.

The Mountune M330 upgrade – which extracts an additional 37kW and 95Nm from the Focus ST’s 206kw and 420Nm 2.3-litre turbo four-cylinder to create a claimed 243kW and 515Nm – requires no modification to engine hardware and is applied only to settings in the vehicle’s onboard computer.

Features such as no-lift (flat-shift), enhanced exhaust overrun (backfires and crackles) and quiet mode can all be enabled with the Mountune software. Owners can also upload three calibrations including performance, stock and anti-theft.

Using Mountune’s smartphone application and vehicle adaptor, owners can download and install the upgraded tune from the convenience of their own home. The kit is available for £599 (AU$1215).

However, in good news for local fans of the next generation Focus ST (and smaller Fiesta ST), the Australian offerings will be far from lacking even without a Mountune offering.

“Australians want higher-spec models,” Ford Australia told CarAdvice. “The Australian Fiesta and Focus ST are the highest-standard specifications available globally.

“We’re focused on introducing Fiesta ST and Focus ST to Australia as part of our Ford Performance lineup.

“Ford Performance goes beyond the Mustang in terms of appealing to a broader audience ... we’d like to apply the Ford Performance philosophy to as many models as we can where appropriate.”

The next generation Ford Focus ST is expected to land in Australia in the third quarter of 2020.
