2018-2019 Isuzu D-Max crew cab recalled due to potential suspension failure
A major fixing point for the vehicle’s suspension may be susceptible to failure.
Isuzu Australia has issued a recall of 2323 of its D-Max utility vehicles affected by a faulty suspension component.
UPDATE 20/3/2020: Isuzu Australia has confirmed the recall is voluntary and pre-emptive. At time of publishing, no Australian cars have had the suspension component fail.
The issue extends to model-year 2018-2019 D-Max crew cabs sold between 27 January 2018 to 28 February 2020.
Lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), the defect relates to a rear leaf spring that may fracture due to “insufficient diameter of the front eye”. The front eye is a crucial component in fixing the vehicle’s suspension to its chassis.
Isuzu reports that if the spring fractures, drivers may lose control of the vehicle, increasing the risk of an accident and injury to the vehicle occupants and other road users.
Isuzu Australia is contacting owners of affected vehicles. The company also suggests owners should call a dealer to arrange for inspection and replacement of the faulty unit (which may also include the hand brake cable assembly).
