The 2021 Kia Sorento will be officially unveiled on Facebook

The 2021 Kia Sorento will make its official debut in virtual form as part a Facebook livestream, in lieu of its anticipated outing at the since-cancelled Geneva Motor Show.

The Korean auto company has announced its fourth-generation, seven-seat SUV will be showcased in a live broadcast commencing at 12:30pm CET, or 10.30pm AEDT, on March 19, 2020, on Kia Motors' official Facebook page.

Viewers can ask questions about the car in comments under the livestream post, with the "most clever questions" winning one of 60 six-month TIME magazine subscriptions.

The SUV has already broken cover a handful of times – in both spy pics and official model reveal photos – revealing it to have more boxy, modern looks than previous iterations.

We also know what to expect under the bonnet, with Kia revealing in February 2020 that the new Sorento will be available with a choice of petrol, diesel or hybrid engine – although the hybrid variant is, at this stage, not heading for Australia.

Instead, the 2.2-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder model, offering outputs of 149kW and 440Nm, will touch down in Australia first in June of this year.

The 206kW/336Nm 3.5-litre petrol V6 engine will follow, arriving here around October 2020.

A Kia spokesperson told Drive that given the current climate amid the coronavirus crisis, "everything is fluid" and timings are only planned at this stage.

The Korean brand has promised its new-gen Sorento will boast "class-leading cargo space" and a roomier cabin than any other SUV, with the car measuring 10mm longer than its predecessor.

Kia is yet to officially detail its Australian pricing and specs, but the model-year 2020 Sorento currently starts at $43,490 plus on-road costs, or $44,490 driveaway, for the base-spec petrol Si.
