The updated 2020 Skoda Karoq will land in Australia from June, with the familiar 110TSI badge joined by a new 140TSI Sportline model.
As reported in December, buyer demand in Europe means the company has focused the Karoq's allocation for the 1.5-litre engine and in-house seven-speed DSG auto on that region's stricter requirements, instead fitting Australian models with the older 1.4-litre unit and an eight-speed Aisin-supplied torque converter automatic.
"The [1.5-litre engine] retains DSG because Europe’s more advanced WLTP and Euro 6 requirements demand it," a Skoda spokesperson told CarAdvice in December.
"Australia ... retains not only NEDC, but languishes in Euro 5 and has fuel quality rated at 67th in the world."
"[Volkswagen Group Australia] has been saying for two years that Australia will increasingly miss out on the latest technology and the time between European and local releases will extend."
Power and torque for the 1.4-litre engine are identical to the previous unit, at 110kW and 250Nm, but fuel consumption rises to 6.6L/100km – an increase of 0.8L/100km.
The Karoq 110TSI is otherwise unchanged for the new model year, with the same standard equipment as options packs as before. These include the Premium Pack ($3700 RRP), Tech Pack ($4200), and Travel Pack ($3800), along with the option to bundle those.
The Premium Pack adds 9.2-inch satellite navigation, full LED headlights with adaptive lighting, 'Suedia' leather-appointed interior trim, 18-inch alloy wheels, front parking sensors, and stainless steel pedals.
The Travel Pack adds leather trim in black or ivory, blind-spot detection, lane assist, electric driver's seat with memory, heated front seats, traffic jam assist, emergency assist, rear traffic alert, and auto folding door mirrors with auto dimming and memory.
The Tech Pack adds 9.2-inch Columbus display with satellite navigation and gesture control (up from 8.0 inches), automatic parking assist, automatic tailgate (open and close), 10-speaker Canton audio system, digital radio, vehicle setup personalisation, drive mode selection and wireless charging.
Pricing is set from $32,990 before on-road costs.
Since 2018, the Karoq 110TSI has been offered in front-wheel-drive form only, and a manual option has not been offered for some time.

2020 Skoda Karoq 140TSI Sportline
A new sub-RS hero model joins the Karoq range in June, in the form of the $39,990 140TSI Sportline – first revealed in 2018 and originally not expected to come to Australia.
Powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine with a petrol particulate filter, the 140TSI offers – as its name suggests – 140kW, and 320Nm. Volkswagen says it "emphasises the necessity of using premium fuel only".
All-wheel drive is standard, as is a seven-speed wet-clutch DSG auto.
Thanks to that arrangement, the 140TSI claims a relatively spritely 0-100km/h time of 7.0 seconds. Fuel consumption is listed at 6.9L/100km.
The 140TSI also gets 19-inch 'Vega' alloy wheels, black-accented body trim, and full LED headlights with adaptive lighting.

Inside, there's perforated leather trim, gear shift paddles and stainless steel pedals. Virtual cockpit is standard, too, as it will be on all model-year 2020 Skoda models above the Fabia.
Packages for the Sportline include the Tech Pack and the Travel Pack.
Skoda offers prepaid service packs for the Karoq 110TSI and 140TSI: three-year/45,000km for $800, and five-year/75,000km for $1400.
