2020 Toyota GR Yaris pricing announced in UK
UK pricing for the monster-Yaris could provide insight into local pricing when the model lands later this year.
The Toyota GR Yaris hot-hatch could cost as much as $60,000 when it goes on sale in Australia at the end of this year – if pricing out of the UK is a guide.
Toyota UK pricing for the rally-inspired all-wheel-drive GR Yaris released last week, lists the base-model GR Yaris (the variant due to be sold in Australia) at £29,995 (AU$59,955) including on-road costs.
The better-equipped GR Yaris Circuit Pack – which gains a mechanical limited-slip differential up front, race-bred Michelin tyres and lighter alloy wheels – has been listed at £33,495 (AU$66,950) including on-road costs, however Australia will not receive this version.
Toyota Australia is yet to announce local pricing. The only clue it has given so far is that the Toyota GR Yaris will be “attainable”.
It is possible Toyota Australia may be able to negotiate a better RRP, judging by the cheaper cost of other similarly-priced models in the UK line-up.
For example, a base-model 2020 Corolla 1.8-litre hybrid is listed at £24,140 (AU$48,470) including on-road costs according to the Toyota UK website. The same base-model Corolla 1.8-litre hybrid in Australia is listed at $30,000 driveaway – 38 per cent cheaper.
The 2020 RAV4 2.5-litre hybrid costs £30,635 (AU$61,280) including on-road costs in the UK, while in Australia the same model is $39,600 driveaway – a 35 per cent reduction.
However, the price gap closes as the cost of Toyota cars increases. In the UK, the Supra GT and GTS are between 6 and 15 per cent dearer than in Australia.
A statement from Toyota Australia said “Currently, local pricing is not known for GR Yaris, and won’t become available until sometime closer to launch.”
