Bigger Bentley Bentayga SUV – and a facelift – on the way

One of the world’s most expensive SUVs is due for a facelift and likely to be joined by an even bigger model.

The Bentley Bentayga is likely to be joined by an even larger, super-luxury SUV sibling in response to the Rolls-Royce Cullinan.

It is unclear how far away an even bigger Bentley Bentayga is from becoming a showroom reality, however the British brand has expressed interest in expanding its SUV line-up.

The Bentley Bentayga is the company’s single biggest selling model, representing almost half of all new Bentleys sold last year.

Despite being four years old, the Bentayga recorded its best annual sales in 2019, giving the company the confidence to do an even more luxurious model.

When asked about plans to expand its SUV line-up, Bentley boss Adrian Hallmark told reporters from the US, the UK and Australia during a roundtable briefing: “Because we haven’t confirmed I wouldn’t like to say. I could imagine a bigger one, I could imagine a smaller one, I could imagine a coupe-type one and I could definitely imagine a battery electric, but only when you get (better battery range).”

When pressed further on a move even further upmarket, Mr Hallmark said: “We’d love to make an even more luxurious, even bigger Bentayga. Watch this space.”

Meanwhile, the regular Bentley Bentayga is expected to undergo a facelift some time in the next 12 months, with subtle styling changes to the exterior and sweeping changes to the interior likely to include a new infotainment system with larger display screens.

It’s also expected the facelifted Bentley Bentayga will continue to be offered with a plug-in hybrid option, with slightly longer battery range, as well as a V8 and a W12.

“We will add hybrid technology to every one of our models in the next three years,” said Mr Hallmark.

As for a switch to full electric power, the Bentley boss said the company was waiting for improvements to energy density to improve real-world driving range, but expected this to occur some time in the next decade.
