The 708kW Ford Shelby Mustang that’s on our wish list

The US tuning company has added two turbochargers to get a top speed of 297km/h.

A tuning company in the USA has made the Shelby Mustang GT350 even more of a weapon, modifying its engine so it’s capable of reaching 100km/h in 2.5 seconds – one second quicker than standard.

Fathouse Fabrications in Indiana uses a base car not available in Australia, the 2020 Ford Shelby Mustang GT350 – and it's produced some incredible performance figures from the car's 5.2-litre V8 engine, naming the car Shelby GT350 1000R.

The engine's standard 392kW and 581Nm has been increased to 601kW and 917Nm when ran on 93RON fuel. But feed it E85 and those figures grow to 708kW and 932Nm, good for a 297km/h top speed.

These numbers are thanks to two 62mm dual ball-bearing turbos which, to help with cooling, are installed underneath the engine.

Other new parts include hand-built stainless steel turbo headers, a stainless works active exhaust, heat coating and turbo blankets, a blow off valve, a 4.5-inch thick intercooler, billet hanger twin fuel pumps, and an electronic boost controller amongst many others.

Atop the US$60,440 ($91,300) purchase price for the Shelby GT350, you'll need to add US$38,999 ($59,000) for the work carried out by Fathouse Fabrications, which comes with a one year/12,000mi (19,300km) warranty.

This is not the only lightning Mustang this company has on offer. The most powerful is the 1400R (based off a 2016 model) which can do the 0-100km/h sprint in 1.9 seconds, the quarter-mile in 8.2 seconds, with a staggering top speed of 354km/h.

It even comes with an optional drag pack which includes a parachute out back.

Other cars in their catalogue are the Chevrolet Camaro and Corvette, Ford F150, Dodge Challenger and Hellcat, Jeep SRT Trackhawk, and the Subaru STI and WRX.

The Dodge Demon doesn't need any more power than its 626kW, but this company stretches it out to a mind-blowing 820kW.

The Shelby Mustang isn't produced in right-hand drive, and would not meet Australian noise regulations, but the Mustang R-Spec with more than 500kW and 800Nm on tap is the closest we will ever get.
