2021 BMW M5 spied winter testing

New photos show the super sedan being put through its paces in the snow.

BMW’s newest iteration of its M5 has been spotted during winter testing before an expected unveiling later this year.

As previously reported, the 2021 M5 seems to take many of its exterior styling cues from the most recent 3 Series, with slim headlights and LED daytime-running lights making an appearance.

The new M5 also appears to have ducked the controversial new kidney grille design that's expected to dominate the front end on the new M4.

While new images don’t reveal more details of the interior, it's likely the new 5 Series range will receive BMW’s new OS7.0 infotainment interface with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 10.25-inch central display.

Braking hardware appears largely unchanged from the 2018 M5, featuring cross-drilled rotors all around with six-piston calipers in the front and single-piston sliding callipers in the rear. The callipers are coated in what looks to be the same signature gold.

BMW has not released more detail regarding the 2021 M5’s powertrain, however the marque has previously confirmed that – unlike the next generation M3 and M4 – no manual option will be offered.

The current M5 versions produce between 441 and 460kW and 750Nm sent through an eight-speed automatic and BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive system, so expect to see the 2021 M5 produce comparable numbers.

The new M5 is expected to be unveiled later this year with a 2021 release.
