Toyota: Yaris-based SUV debuting in Geneva

The crossover will use the Yaris’s platform and slot in beneath the C-HR as a smaller SUV option.

Toyota is set to unveil its new Yaris-based hybrid SUV crossover at the 2020 Geneva motor show in March.

The new B-SUV will be built on the TNGA-B platform used for the Yaris and GR Yaris, and as such is likely to utilise the former's hybrid powertrain.

That means it should receive the 1.5-litre engine and hybrid system used in the Yaris, rather than the 1.8-litre engine found in the 2020 C-HR Koba Hybrid.

The as-yet unnamed SUV should also receive the six-speed manual or continuously-variable transmission (CVT) options as the Yaris (pictured below).

Combining “elevated ground clearance with an intelligent all-wheel drive system and Toyota’s latest hybrid technology,” the B-SUV should slot in beneath the marque’s more premium and larger C-HR model.

The car has already been confirmed for Europe, where it will go head-to-head with the Mazda CX-3, Kia Stonic, and Hyundai Venue.

A Toyota Australia spokesperson today told CarAdvice the company has "nothing to confirm" about the car's local prospects, however CarAdvice understands an announcement about Australian availability could closely follow its reveal next month.

"It’s definitely a segment we have interest in and is growing in Australia,” the spokesperson said.
