Mercedes-AMG has revealed the GLE63 S Coupe, set to touch down in Australia during the third quarter of 2020.
The GLE63 S Coupe will feature a variation of the 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbo engine used elsewhere in the Mercedes-AMG stable, however the model follows the GLE and GLS63 'wagons' in blending the bent-eight with a 48V mild-hybrid EQ Boost system.
Outputs is rated at 450kW and 850Nm for the range-topping S that will be offered, with EQ Boost contributing an extra 16kW and 250Nm in short bursts.
The result is a sprint from 0-100km/h in a claimed 3.8 seconds – 0.4 seconds faster than the 2016 GLE63 S, which utilised a larger 5.5-litre V8 twin-turbo without the aid of EQ Boost. Fuel consumption is claimed at 11.5L/100km.
The GLE63 S variant also features active engine mounts able to adjust their rigidity on the fly, softening off at a cruise and firming up when the driver is in a hurry.
As with the wagon-bodied GLE63 S, the Coupe will receive AMG’s Ride Control+ air suspension, Active Ride Control electronic anti-roll bars, 4MATIC all-wheel drive with variable torque distribution, and a nine-speed automatic transmission.
Drivers will have seven drive modes to choose from, ranging from Comfort to Sport +, with Trail and Sand in between.
The GLE63 S will ride on 22-inch wheels as standard, up from the 21-inch units on the 'regular' model offered overseas.
Braking comes courtesy of six-piston calipers and 400mm discs in the front, with single-piston callipers and 370mm discs in the rear. This is the same setup found in the base model, however the S will receive red brake callipers.
When will the 2020 Mercedes-AMG GLE63 S Coupe arrive in Australia?
The GLE63 S will be here in the third quarter of 2020.
