2021 Kia Sorento officially revealed

The leaks and teasers are over, and the 2020 Sorento has officially broken cover.

Kia's seven-seat 2020 Sorento SUV has finally been revealed in official images, ahead of its public debut at the Geneva motor show next month.

Pictured here in European trim, the 2021 Sorento will replace the third-generation car currently offered in Australia, going up against the Mazda CX-9 and related Hyundai Santa Fe.

Compared to the current model (pictured at the bottom), the new Sorento has a tougher face and an overall boxier look.

A broader, more square interpretation of the brand's Tiger Nose grille dominates up front, while the tail is home to claw-style taillights and a more aggressively sculpted bootlid.

Huge strides have been made in the cabin, where the current car's high-set screen and analogue instruments have been replaced with a fully-digital setup.

There are jewel-like details in the vertical air vents, between which sit the air conditioning controls. The transmission tunnel is home to a rotary gear selector, and should offer more storage than the current car.

Although it hasn't confirmed the options to be offered in Australia, the first set of European images reveals high-end touches like quilted leather and backlit trim will be available overseas.

A leaked document has revealed the Sorento will be available with a range of petrol, diesel and hybrid engines, each available with a choice of front- or all-wheel drive.

The hybrid Sorento will use an electric motor mated to a turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder and a six-speed automatic transmission – but it's only likely to be offered in left-hand drive.

Two further options are expected: a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder described as 'NEW R' mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and the new Theta-III 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, mated to a six-speed automatic.

The new Sorento will also reportedly be available with a naturally-aspirated version of the 2.5-litre, also mated to a six-speed automatic and with a choice of front- or all-wheel drive.
