Tesla Model S, Model X Long Range Plus get range boost

Elon Musk has taken to his preferred medium – Twitter – to reveal a range boost for the oldest-serving Tesla models.

Tesla has liberated more range from the Model S and Model X, thanks to "many small hardware improvements".

Elon Musk took to his preferred medium (Twitter) to reveal the Model S Long Range Plus now has a claimed EPA range of 628km, up from 596km.

The Model X SUV has seen its range jump from 528km to 565km – at least, Tesla says it has. The claimed ranges are yet to be certified, so they're just estimates for now.

"Tesla Model S estimated EPA range is now above 390 miles or ~630 km," Musk said.

The electric vehicle startup has previously set its sights on 400 miles (644km) of range from a single charge.

Musk didn't specify where exactly the range boost has come from, instead Tweeting there have been "many small hardware improvements" have been rolled out "gradually over the past several months".

Along with the improved driving range, Tesla has added a set of 19-inch alloy wheels dubbed 'Tempest' (pictured above) to the options list in the USA.

Is the longer-range Tesla Model S coming to Australia?

CarAdvice understands the changes to the Model S and Model X are for the North American market, not Australia at this point.
