Ford Ranger, Everest to debut connected ‘FordPass’ app in Australia
The dual-cab Ranger and seven-seat Everest will be sold with connected FordPass technology as standard from the middle of 2020.
Ford has given its strong-selling Ranger dual-cab ute and ute-based Everest SUV a technology boost for 2020.
From the middle of the year the entire line-up will be offered with FordPass Connect as standard, allowing owners to monitor and control their cars using a smartphone app.
None of the Ranger or Everest's rivals offer the same technology, which is becoming common in cars from BMW, Audi, and Mercedes-Benz. Hyundai also offers similar functionality through its AutoLink app.
Using the app, Ranger and Everest owners will be able to lock or unlock, remotely start and stop, locate, and organise servicing for their cars.
The smartphone app is also able to warn owners of general maintenance requirements, when smaller issues such as blown lightbulbs arise.
FordPass relies on a modem with a SIM card – similar to the SIM in your mobile phone – connected to the internet. Ford won't charge owners for the data connection, but it hasn't confirmed how long FordPass connectivity will be standard.
"FordPass Connect will be rolled out across the Ford showroom in 2020, as we bring the technology to all vehicle types, across all models and all price points," said Kay Hart, Ford Australia president and CEO.
"We want every Australian to be able to benefit from this great connected technology."
