Dodge Durango Hellcat: Is a 527kW SUV in the works?

Dodge could be getting ready to shoehorn its biggest, baddest V8 into one of its most practical cars.

Dodge could be readying its wildest Hellcat yet.

Although unconfirmed at this stage, it appears the Dodge Durango SUV could be treated to a full-on Hellcat makeover.

Keen-eyed fans of The Fast and Furious spotted the Hellcat crossover in the Dodge House of Power advertisement (below), sparking speculation from fans the seven-seat SUV could be launched with a 527kW supercharged V8 engine.

We don't get a proper look at the high-performance SUV but the video appears to show the Hellcat badge on the Durango's flanks, followed by a shot of a hard-charging crossover accelerating through the night.

It doesn't appear to be a Charger or Challenger, given the taller wheel arches and higher-profile tyres shown in the video.

Fiat Chrysler has a history of stuffing the Hellcat's engine into SUVs, too – the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk shares its 527kW engine with the Charger and Challenger Hellcat.

At the moment the Durango is offered to American buyers in a range of trims trims, starting with a 215kW 3.6-litre V6 and topping out with the SRT version packing a 354kW 6.4-litre V8 engine.
